Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
3 376 mg/L

Additional information

Experimental results are available from a single-species microorganism toxicity test only.

Although, the substance is volatile, the study was performed in an unsealed test system as testing in sealed vessels is technically not feasible. Analytical monitoring was not performed as this is not required.

In an oxygen consumption inhibition test with the isobutyl vinyl ether (CAS 109-53-5) conducted according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 27 (= Robra-Test) using Pseudomonas putida as test organism an EC10 of 3376 mg/l was determined after 30 minutes of exposure (BASF AG, 1988; report no. 10/0700/88).

In conclusion, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
