Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

Description of key information

In accordance to section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. The gaseous nature of 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane precludes the conductance of conventional skin and eye irritation studies in animals.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance to section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the studies on skin and eye irritation do not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. In the study of Haskell Laboratory (1976), the instillation of 0.1 ml of liquified substance into rabbit eye led to minimal swelling of conjunctiva at 1h and slight transient discharge. There were no effects on the cornea and on the iris. However, as the compound has boiled out of the eye immediately, the relevance of this data to human risk assessment is very limited.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The gaseous nature of 1-chloro-1,1-fluoroethane precludes the conduct of conventional skin and eye irritation tests in animals. Therefore, classification for skin and eye irritation is not applicable according to EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
