Description of key information
Appearance / physical state / colour:
The appearance of chemical 7-Anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is observed to be dark greyish powder organic compound.
Melting point/ Freezing point:
The Mean Melting temperature range of 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No. 119-40-4) was found be 362.16-365.16°C at 972.0 hPa.
Boiling point:
The study does not need to be conducted because the 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No. 119-40-4) is solid substance which melts above 300°C i.e at 362.16-365.16°C. Therefore present study considered to be waiver.
Density:
Based on prediction done using ACD/I-Lab 2.0, the density of chemical 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No. 119-40-4) was estimated to be 1.495 ± 0.06 g/cm3.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry):
The particle size distribution of 7-Anilino-4-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonic Acid (CAS No. 119-4047) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron.
Vapour pressure:
The study does not need to be conducted because the melting point is above 300°C.
Partition coefficient:
KOWWIN v 1.68 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the partition coefficient of the test chemical. Partition coefficient of test substance 7-Anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was estimated to be 0.83. This value indicate that the test substance is hydrophilic in nature.
Water solubility:
The water solubility for the test item 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was found to be 587.97 mg/L at 25°C.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is an advanced intermediate for the manufacture of chemicals. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The mean flash point of 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No. 119-40-4) was 193.3°C at 972.9 hPa.
Autoflammability:
7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid ignites only when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid is flammable only at high temperature of about 950°C. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid was considered non-flammable.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
Viscosity:
In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids. 7-Anilino-4-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonic Acid is a yellow to white colored powder.Hence this study can be considered for waiver.
Additional information
Appearance/physical state/colour:
Based on available data from obtained report, the appearance of chemical 7-Anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is observed to be dark greyish powder organic compound.
Other supporting data from authoritative sources, also supported the selected key study and observed the appearance of chemical 7-Anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid as a solid dry powder organic compound.
Melting point:
The melting point determination of 7-anilino-4-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No. 119-40-4) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and Mean Melting temperature range
