Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Description of key information

Testing is considered not to be required as based on the chemical structure it can be concluded that zirconium dinitrate oxide is non explosive. The non-explosiveness is confirmed by DSC analysis.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Considering the chemical structure of the substance and taking Appendix 6 of UN 'Manual of Tests and Criteria' (table A 6.1) for the use of screening procedures to assess explosive properties, and the ECHA Endpoint specific guidance (R.7a) into consideration, zirconium dinitrate oxide is concluded not to contain any chemical groups indicating explosive properties. This conclusion is confirmed by the DSC analysis showing no significant exothermic decomposition energy below 500°C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Following the above assessment it is concluded that zirconium dinitrate oxide is non explosive and should thus not be classified for this endpoint under the CLP Regulation.
