Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two chronic aquatic invertebrate ecotoxicity studies are available, with m- and p-xylene as the test substances. Niederlehner et al (1998) investigated the effects of m-xylene on Ceriodaphnia dubia reproduction over 7 days. TNO (2005) investigated the effects of p-xylene on Daphnia magna reproduction over 21 days following OECD 211. Both studies included analytical confirmation of the exposure concentrations.

The reported NOEC from the two studies are similar, 1.17 mg/L and 1.57 mg/L. The most conservative result from the individual isomers will be used in the risk assessment.

A TLM-EqP modeling framework was used to support values derived experimentally and are presented as supporting studies.

The estimated NOELR values from TLM QSAR were 1.672 - 2.122 mg/L.
