Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, a relative density study (section 7.4) does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. An estimation based on calculation shall be made from molecular weight and the Ideal Gas Laws. The relative density with respect to air can be obtained by: RD = ρgas/ρair = Mgas/Mair. As the molecular weight of air is 28.97 and the molecular weight of VDF is 64.04, the relative density is 64.04/28.97 = 2.21. Nevertheless data is available showing that vinylidene fluoride has a relative density of 0.59-0.62. This value refers to liquid vinylidene fluoride under its autogenous pressure (about 36 - 40 bar).
