Description of key information

Human epidemiology data does not suggest a sensitisation issue. Exposures to chemically similar materials ubiquitous in the environment and food stuffs and there are no case reports of sensitisation

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Because of the fibrous nature of the substance it is not feasible to conduct a local lymph node assay. There is no evidence that the components of the substance are sensitising agents. Annex XI waiver - clinical human data is available, which shows no sensitisation effects in the workforce; details described in 7.10.1 -Wirral Hospital report

Justification for classification or non-classification

No respiratory or skin sensitising effects have been observed in any animal inhalation tests. Extensive health surveillance of the workforce at the major manufactures of the substance in EU has shown no evidence of sensitisation.
