Description of key information

In water, 71.4 % biodegradability was determined for 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters at 48 days (20.7 % biodegradability at 28 days).

Additional information

The biodegradation of 1,2,4 -Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters in an aerobic, aqueous medium was conducted according to the OECD guideline 301B. 20.7 % biodegradability was determined for the substance after 28 days (71.4 % biodegradability after 48 days). In a supporting study (Sturm assay) it reached a degradation of 45% after 28 days (78 % after 43 days). In a not full study report was only noted the summarised result of 95 % biodegradation after 28 d (Doc removal). It is concluded that the substance is inherently biodegradable in water.

The substance 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters has an extremely low water solubility (< 1 mg/L at 23 °C). The substance is therefore not expected to partition significantly into wastewater and consequently will not enter the environment by this route.
