Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The studies do not need to be performed for self-reactive substances (technically not feasible).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

OBSH was tested for flammability by challenging the substance with a burning cigarette and burning match. The substance did not develop a visible flame, but smoke developed. The determined burning index was 6. Flammability was additionally analysed using Godbert-Greenwald furnace, and ignition temperature was established to 530 degrees celcius.

According to the CLP Guidance (ECHA, 2017), if a a burning index of 3 or less is found, the substance should not be classified as a flammable solid and no further testing is required. However, if smouldering or a flame is observed, the full test must be carried out. Since smouldering occurred and the burning index was > 3, further information is required.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not classified as flammable, because OBSH is classified as a self-reactive substance type D.
