Additional information

For the test item Potassium permanganate were derived:

PNEC(freshwater) = 0.00006 mg/l

PNEC(aqua intermittent releases) = 0.0006 mg/l

PNEC (STP) = 1.64 mg/l

With regard to test results it seems to be crustaceans (daphnia) more sensitive to the test item then fish or algae, therefore EC(50) of daphnia was selected as basic value to evaluation of PNECs for aquatic organisms.

Conclusion on classification

The test item, Potassium permanganate, is classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC for aquatic environment as dangerous (N) with risk phrase R50/53 (very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment).
