There are no reliable toxicity data for sediment-dwelling organisms relating to o-tert-butylphenol. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex X (9.5.1 Long-term toxicity to sediment organisms) these studies need not be conducted if direct and indirect exposure is unlikely and/or effects from degradation products are unlikely.
It is proposed that testing is waived since direct and indirect exposure of sediment is unlikely. Reliable biodegradation study results indicate that the substance is considered inherently biodegradable. Use of the substance does not include direct exposure to sediment. Any release to wastewater treatment plant or sediment from residual o-tert-butylphenol in resin is negligible. Therefore, no tests on sediment organisms are provided.
