Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of Azobis (cyanoisopropyl), also known as 2,2’-Azobis (isobutyronitrile) was investigated and found to be 100°C - 103°C (373 -376K); Source: Physicochemical property study report (1987 inspection of existing chemicals). There is also a publication 'Fire Protection Guide on Hazardous Materials' by the National Fire Protection Agency (7th ed Boston MA 1978) that gives the melting point of the substance as 105°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
103 °C

Additional information

The slight differences in the value of the substance's melting point between the two results (i.e. 101 -103°C vs 105°C) could be due to possible variation in methods. However, no data were available in order to compare the methods or conditions.
