Most sensitive long term toxicity data for 3 different freshwater fish species are summarized in the EU-RAR (2008). According to these data, the effect concentrations for Nickel hydrogencitrate were calculated:Brachydanio rerio: no effect concentration (8d, hatchability) = 0.13 mg Trinickel dicitrate/LPimephales promelas: NOEC (32d, growth) = 0.180 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L Oncorhynchus mykiss: NOEC (8d, growth) = 0.422 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L (most sensitive data for this species)Most sensitive long term toxicity data for 2 different marine fish species (as cited in EU-RAR, 2008)Atherinops affinis: EC10 (40d, survival) = 11.326 mg Trinickel dicitrate/LCyprinodon variegatus: EC10 (28d, growth) = 65.331 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L
Accepted data on chronic single-species toxicity tests resulting in high
quality NOEC/L(E)C10 values (expressed as Ni) for freshwater fish (n =
21) are summarised in the EU-RAR, 2008. Chronic data for 3 different
fish species were extracted and used in the effects assessment. The
NOEC/L(E)C10 values for fish range from 40 μg Ni/L (0.13 mg Trinickel
dicitrate/L) for Brachydanio rerio to 1,100 μg Ni/L (3.462 mg Trinickel
dicitrate/L) for Oncorhynchus mykiss. The most sensitive data for
Brachydanio rerio are shown in detail in the key study record of chap
6.1.2, further results for other freshwater fish are attached in this
key study record.
Accepted data on chronic single-species toxicity tests resulting in
accepted high quality reliable NOEC or L(E)C10 values (expressed as Ni)
for marine fish are summarized in the EU-RAR, 2008, too. EC10 values
were in a range from 3599 μg Ni/L (11.326 mg Trinicel dicitrate/L) for
survival of the topsmelt, Atherinops affinis, to 20760 μg Ni/L (65,331
mg Trinickel dicitrate/L) for growth of the sheepshead minnow,
Cyprinodon variegatus. The results for the marine species are only shown
in the attachment of the key study record of chapter 6.1.2.
