Description of key information

The boiling point of a concentrated solution of lactic acid in water starts to boil at temperatures between 120 and 130 degrees C, depending on the composition (percent lactic acid). Due to evaporation of water, the temperature of the boiling solution will rise during the boiling process.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
120 K

Additional information

Lactic acid has a boiling point of 122 degrees at 15 mm Hg. The substance under consideration, a 93% aqueous solution of lactic acid has a boiling point of ca 120 -130 °C at atmospheric pressure.
