Measurement:

About 150 mg powder, synthetic air, heating rate 20 K/min. Detection of mass: TG, change of mass DTG and heat flow: DTA

Results:

Melting area: peak onset at Ti = 1067°C, peak end set Tf = 1295°C. Extrapolation of peak onset and peak end set according to DIB 51004: Te = 1144.8°C and Tp = 1217.0°C. Two endothermic thermal decompositions and continuous loss of mass. Significant increase of mass loss at temperature above 1040°C and 1124°C.

Melting interval:

Melting range according DIN 51004: 1145°C to 1217°C

Technical melting interval: 1067°C to 1295°C

Conclusions:
The melting range according DIN 51004 was determined to be 1145°C to 1217°C.
Executive summary:

The melting range of "Kalkstickstoff" (calcium cyanamide, technical grade) was measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DTA) with simultaneous Micro Balance (TG, DTG). The melting range according DIN 51004 was determined to be 1145°C to 1217°C. Two endothermic thermal decompositions and continuous loss of mass were observed. Significant increase of mass loss at a temperature above 1040°C and 1124°C was measured.

Description of key information

The melting range according DIN 51004 was determined to be 1145°C to 1217°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
