Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

As key study regarding toxicity to microorganisms a non-GLP test according to OECD guideline 209 was performed using domestic activated sludge as inoculum. After 30 minutes of exposure no respiration inhibition could be observed resulting in a EC0 of 1000 mg/L (BASF 90/1170/08/1, 1990). As a further result an EC10 (16h) of 95 mg/L from a test with Pseudomonas putida is available (BASF 1990). For PNEC derivation the EC0 values from the OECD 209 test is used as the test is more realistic for the assessment of toxicity to sewage works.
