Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

One experimental study according to OECD 301B confirmed that 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate (CAS 63705-03-3) is readily biodegradable (79% biodegradation after 28 d) according to the OECD criteria. Therefore, the substance will not be persistent in the environment and ultimately degraded in sewage treatment plants (STPs). The degradation via abiotic hydrolysis is not considered to be a relevant degradation pathway in the environment since reliable QSAR results using HYDROWIN v2.00 resulted in DT50 values > 24 h at pH 7. Considering the low water solubility (< 0.15 mg/L) and the high potential for adsorption to organic soil and sediment particles (log Koc ≥ 2.95, KOCWIN v2.00), the main compartments for environmental distribution are expected to be soil and sediment. However, due to its ready biodegradability, the substance will not persist in these compartments. Evaporation into air and the transport through the atmospheric compartment is not expected since 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate is not volatile based on the low estimated vapour pressure (< 0.0001 Pa at 20 °C). However, if released into air, the substance is susceptible to rapid indirect photodegradation by OH-radicals with a DT50 of 3.96 - 10.17h (AOPWIN v1.92). The potential for bioaccumulation of 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate is assumed to be low, based on the available data on metabolism of the substance and reliable QSAR calculations (Arnot-Gobas, BCFBAF v3.01).
