The test substance is not supposed to be applied directly to soil. An indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely since the substance is readily biodegradable. For a substance being considered as „readily biodegradable“, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and therefore a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. As a consequence, no tests on terrestrial organisms are provided.

 

Exposure of birds is generally only considered for the fish and earthworm food chains following the release of a substance via a sewage treatment works. It is unlikely that a secondary poisoning risk will be identified for 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole since it is readily biodegradable and has a log Kow below 3).
