Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed - Exposure to high concentrations may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Splashes of liquid to the skin or eyes will cause freeze burns. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

Inhalation: remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest.

Skin Contact: remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and copious amounts of water.

Eye Contact: immediately irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart, for at least 15 minutes.

Description of first aid measures

Inhalation - Remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest. Oxygen may be beneficial if breathing is laboured. Obtain medical attention.

Skin contact - Thaw affected areas with water. Remove contaminated clothing. Caution: clothing may adhere to the skin. Immediately wash affected skin with plenty of warm water. If symptoms persist, obtain medical attention.

Eye contact - Immediately irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart, for at least 15 minutes. Obtain immediate medical attention.

Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. If patient is conscious, wash out mouth with water and give 200-300 ml (half a pint) of water to drink. Obtain immediate medical attention.

Further Medical Treatment - Symptomatic treatment and supportive therapy as indicated. Adrenaline and similar sympathomimetic drugs should be avoided following exposure as cardiac arrhythmia may result with possible subsequent cardiac arrest.

Fire-fighting measures

General - Non-flammable.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture - Combustion or thermal decomposition will evolve very toxic and corrosive vapours. (hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride and possibly carbonyl fluoride and phosgene)

Extinguishing media - Foam, CO2 or dry powder. Keep fire exposed containers cool by spraying with water.

Advice for fire-fighters - A self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in fire conditions. Wear neoprene gloves when handling refuse from a fire involving this product, to protect against possible contamination with hydrofluoric acid.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures - Ventilate area. Ensure suitable personal protection during the removal of spillages, for example: goggles, respiratory protection against organic vapours, rubber boots, gloves and apron.

Environmental precautions - Do not allow spillages or vapour to enter drains, sewers, or watercourses.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up - Adsorb spillages onto sand, earth or any suitable adsorbent material. Transfer to a container for disposal. Wash the spillage area with water. Washings must be prevented from entering surface water drains.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling - Avoid inhalation of vapours. Atmospheric concentrations should be

minimised and kept as low as reasonably practicable. The vapour is heavier than air and will accumulate at low levels. Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, if vapours are likely to be evolved. Avoid contact of liquid or spray with skin or eyes.

Flammable. Avoid contact with naked flames and hot surfaces as there is a fire risk. Corrosive and very toxic decomposition products can be formed.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Keep container tightly closed and dry. Keep in a cool, well ventilated place. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Do not expose sealed containers to temperatures above 40 deg C.

Specific use - Working fluid, blowing agent.
