Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

This Test method was performed to assess abiotic hydrolytic transformations of FAT 40863/A TE in aquatic systems at pH values normally found in the environment (pH 4 – 9).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 yr
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The determination was carried out using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method C7 Abiotic Degradation, Hydrolysis as a Function of pH of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 111 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 13 April 2004.

The test system used sterile buffer solutions at pH’s 4, 7 and 9.

Discussion

No significant peaks were observed at the approximate retention time of the test item on analysis of any matrix blank solutions.

The sample solutions remained at pH 4.0±0.1, pH 7.0±0.1 and pH 9.0±0.2 throughout.

The chromatographic profile of the test item was noted to somewhat different for each test pH. However, for each test pH, the profile was essentially the same for the standards compared to the respective samples. On review, it was considered that this issue was most likely due to dissociation of one of the test item functional groups, i.e. a pKa issue, and therefore, not a test issue.

Conclusion

The estimated half-lives at 25 °C of the test item are shown in the following table:
