Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Ethanol:
All references describe ethanol as completely miscible in water
Isopropanol:
Two separate TGD-approved handbooks agree that the substance is miscible with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Based on data from the two constituents it can be concluded that the reaction mass is completely miscible with water.

Ethanol:

All available references indicate that ethanol is fully soluble in water at relevant environmental temperatures. The key parameter adopted to indicate complete miscibility is therefore the same as the density. Water solubility is not expected to be sensitive to changes in pH or temperature (at least those likely to be encountered in under conceivable environmental conditions). The key parameter is based on the density - representative of 100% solubility.

Isopropanol:

Information regarding water solubility of IPA was sourced from two separate handbooks. Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, and Biologicals (14th Edition) and CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed), which are known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability both report that the substance is "miscible with water”. No numerical value for concentration or information on solution temperature or pH was reported.
