Description of key information

With the exception of the following deviations, the experimental procedure used complied with that specified in Method A 6 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC:
1:       Alkane 4 was not tested for water solubility using the column elution method specified in Commission Directive 92/69/EEC as this method is unsuitable for use with liquid substances.
2:       Due to the low water solubility of Alkane 4, it proved impractical to prepare samples at 5 times the saturation level. The test mixtures were prepared at approximately 333 times the saturation level.
These deviations have been considered not to have affected the integrity of the study.
The water solubility of alkane 4 has been determined to be less than 4.82x10-4 g/l of solution at a temperature of 20.0 +/- 0.5 °C.

Additional information

It has been decided that the Study conducted by Safepharm Laboratories Limited 703/029 is to be used as the key Water Solubility study. This is because it follows accepted Guidelines (Method A.6 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC), the other study did not follow accepted Guidelines, and the results produced are in the acceptable format for this type of study. In addition, the Study 703/029 has been evaluated as Reliability 1 according to the KLIMISCH scale, while study #ILT 00 -001 has been evaluated as Reliability 2. Therefore study 703 /029 yields more reliable results for the Water solubility of the substance Alkane 4.
