First-aid measures

General:
Remove the patient from the source of exposure immediately. Normal first aid. Keep calm and warm in fresh air. If unconsciousness, loos tight-fitting clothes and place in a stable side lying position. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration aid and if hearth has stopped, give hearth compression. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.

Ingestion:
Conscious people: Induce vomiting (a finger in the throat or large quantities of milk). Keep head low to avoid content in stomach to reach lungs. Seek medical attention.

Skin:
Contaminated clothing to be removed. Wash with soap and water. Obtain medical aid if the person feels unwell.

Eyes:
Flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical aid if irritation persists.

Information to medical personnel:
Material is a vasodilator (causes blood vessels to dilate or expand) which may cause headaches similar to those caused by nitroglycerine (NG).

Fire-fighting measures

Butyl-NENA is an energetic material and can deflagrate or explode during a fire. Extinguishing can be attempted only if the liquid is unconfined and in small quantities.

NEVER try by hand to extinguish fire around containers containing Butyl-NENA. Immediate evacuate the area and contact the fire service. Use unmanned or remote fire hoses.

In case of fire and/or explosion, do not breath fumes.

Accidental release measures

Avoid impact, friction or other sources of ignition. Risk of explosion.

Avoid skin contact and breathing of vapors. Use necessary personal protection.

Waste is collected with absorption material. Store waste in closed containers.

Handling and storage

Handling:
Risk of explosion by shock, friction, fire or other sources of ignition. Handle with care.
All handling as far as possible in ventilated systems. Keep containers well closed when not in use. Avoid breathing of vapors or skin contact.

Storage:
Stored in tight closed containers and only in places approved for explosives.
Smoking and use of open fire near explosives is prohibited.

Exposure controls / personal protection

HTP values (PEL/TLV): No data

General:
Avoid skin contact and breathing of vapors.

Respiratory protection:
Use fresh air mask when working in poor ventilated areas.

Hand protection:
Protective gloves of butyl-rubber shall be used.

Eye protection:
Use goggles when handling Butyl-NENA.

Skin protection:
Use protective clothing to avoid spill on the skin.

Stability and reactivity

Stability:
Impact, friction, electrostatic spark, open fire or other sources of ignition will lead to instability.

Polymerization:
Butyl-NENA does not polymerize.

Reactive compounds:
Strongly oxidizing compounds, acids and bases.

Decomposition products:
Nitric fumes (NOx).

Disposal considerations

Small quantities of Butyl-NENA may be destructed by burning.

National regulations for handling explosives must be followed.
