Additional information

A study was conducted to determine the toxicity of the substance to soil macroorganisms (Eisenia fetida) according to OECD Guideline 207. Based on the results of two range-finding studies, a definitive test was performed at nominal test substance concentrations of 0, 54, 95, 165, 289 and 506 mg/kg dw of artificial soil (equivalent to 0, 43.8, 77.1, 133.9, 234.5 and 410.6 mg a.i./kg dw of artificial soil) and included control and solvent control treatments.  There were four replicate test vessels per treatment, each containing ten mature earthworms.  In compliance with the test guideline, the batch weight of earthworms in each vessel was recorded at Time 0 and again on Day 14.  Survival was assessed by observing the numbers of worms alive and dead on Day 7 and Day 14, along with any sub-lethal effects. After 7 and 14 days exposure, there was no mortality in the control, solvent control or till the test concentration of 289 mg/kg dw. At 506 mg/kg dw mortality was 2.5% and 10% after 7 and 14 days exposure, respectively.  There were no observed effects on behaviour or morphology after the initial reluctance to burrow into the artificial soil. Statistical analysis indicated that there was no significant effect on weight change compared to the control at any treatment concentration. The validity criteria of the study was achieved. Under the study conditions, the nominal 14 -day LC50 and NOEC (based on growth) of the test substance in Eisenia fetida were determined to be greater than 410.6 mg/kg dw. The NOEC based on mortality was 234.5 mg a.i./kg dw (Sharples, 2009).
