ECHA is committed to providing a service that meets the needs and expectations of its various stakeholders in a balanced and impartial way and in strict compliance with applicable legislation.

ECHA’s integrated management approach is presented in the ECHA Integrated Management System (IMS) Strategy and Framework, which consolidates and integrates the different elements of the Agency’s management system. The structure of the IMS is based on the Internal Control Framework of the Commission. It covers quality and environmental management, which conform to the internationally recognised ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Certification

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance has certified the ECHA Integrated Management System against the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards. The third-party recognition provides assurance that the Agency has established a comprehensive quality and environmental management framework and applies good business practices with the aim of always providing its services to the satisfaction of its stakeholders.

Background

In line with of ECHA’s Financial Regulation (FR), the Agency shall attach to its Programming Document a strategy for achieving efficiency gains and synergies, and a strategy for the organisational management and internal control systems including an anti-fraud strategy. In addition, FR defines also what are the elements of effective internal control, as laid down in the Internal Control Framework.

In view of the above and following ECHA’s reorganisation in 2019, the Agency developed its Integrated Management System Strategy to support the performance of the Agency in line with its strategic priorities and the compliance with the obligations stemming from the Financial Regulation. The aim of the strategy is to set the high-level commitments to set the direction which the Agency will follow in the coming years, as well as to consolidate and integrate to the extent possible the different elements of ECHA’s management system.

The Integrated Management System Framework is the tool which implements the Integrated Management System Strategy. It provides high-level information on the different components of the IMS , and on the principles and characteristics of ECHA’s governance, strategy, planning and risk management, operations and operational structure, evaluation and improvement. Current ISO certification schemes support the strategy implementation.
