BOD5 / COD results

Results with reference substance:
Sodium benzoate showed 92% degradation after 14 days with more than 60% degradation in 10 days window. 97% degradation after 28 days.

Any other information on results incl. tables

The mean BOD of the innoculated mineral medium control was 15.6mg O2/L after 28 days and therefore satisfied the validation criteria of the test guidelines. The pH of the innoculated test items was 7.5 at day 28 and therefore within permissible limits. The difference in the results between the two replicates was within the permissible 20% variation. The toxicity control attained 30% biodegradation after 14 days and 32% after 28 days confirming that the test item was not toxic to the sewage treatment microorganism used in the study.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
not readily biodegradable
Executive summary:

In a guideline and GLP manometric respiration ready biodegradation study, the substance THI TM was only degraded by 2%. It is not therefore readily biodegradable.
