Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Appearance

The test item was observed to be a clear, colourless, liquid.

Melting/freezing point

The melting range of the test item was -16.2 to 9.1 °C (257.0 to 282.3K). A glass transition of the test item was observed at -55.0 °C (218.2K) (OECD 102. EU Method A.1 and OPPTS 830.7200).

Boiling point

Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiments at temperatures of > 200 °C (> 473K) (OECD 103, EU Method A.2 and OPPTS 830.7220).

Relative density

The density of the test item was determined by the pycnometer method to be 0.919 g/cm3 (0.919 x 10E03 kg/m3) at 20 °C. Relative density was reported as 0.919.

Granulometry

Particle size influencing toxicological profile is irrelevant because the substance is a liquid at ambient temperature.

Vapour pressure

The vapour pressure of the test item was determined to be 3.1 x 10E-02 Pa at 20 °C (equivalent to 2.3 x 10E-04 mm Hg) and 5.7 x 10E-02 Pa at 25 °C (equivalent to 4.2 x 10E-04 mm Hg) (OECD 104, EU Method A.4 and OPPTS 830.7950).

Partition coefficient

Pow values at neutral pH were determined to be 2.1 x 10E+06 (peak 1; area 83 %) and 4.6 x 10E+6 (peak 2; area 17 %). The corresponding Log Pow values were reported as 6.3 (peak 1) and 6.7 (peak 2) (OECD 117, EU Method A.24 and OPPTS 830.7570).

Water solubility

Water solubility was determined by the slow-stirring flask method to be 0.420 mg/L at 20 °C and pH 7.5 (OECD 105, EU Method A.6 and OPPTS 830.7840).

Surface tension

The surface tension of a test solution at 90% of the test item saturation solubility in water and at 20°C was 52.8 mN/m. According to this, the test item is considered to be surface active (OECD 115 and EU Method A.5).

Flash point

The flash point of the test item was determined by the closed cup equilibrium method to be 147°C (EU Method A.9 and ISO 2719).

Auto-ignition temperature

The test item is auto-ignitable with an auto-ignition temperature of 250 °C at 999 to 1004 hPa (EU Method A.15).

Flammability

The test item is a liquid and, in line with ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance (Version 6.0; July 2017), relevant properties for classification of the substance as flammable are the determined flash point and boiling point. Further experimental investigation of flammability is therefore not required.

Flammability in contact with water

Expert opinion considers the test item to be not highly flammable in contact with water (EU Method A.12, UN Test N.5 and UN Appendix 6).

Pyrophoric propertie

The test item is considered to have no pyrophoric properties (EU Method A.23, UN Test N.3 and UN Appendix 6).

Explosive properties

The test item is considered to have no explosive properties (EU Method A.14, OPPTS 830.6316 and UN Appendix 6).

Oxidising properties

The test item is considered to have no oxidising properties EU Method A.21, UN Test O.2 and UN Appendix 6).
