Due to the complex nature and composition of the test substance, it was considered not completely applicable to follow the EC A.5 and OECD 115 guidelines with regard to sample preparation. Therefore, the surface tension of a nominally 1 g/L dispersion of test substance in water was used as a worst case scenario based on the maximum sample concentration specified in the guidelines. According to criteria stated in EC Method A.5, substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method should be regarded as being surface active.

Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the the surface tension of 1 g/L nominal test concentration in water was determined to be 48 ± 0.5 mN/m at 20 ± 0.5ºC; therefore, was considered to be surface-active.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the surface tension of the test substance, using the ring method, according to the OECD Guideline 115 and EU Method A.5. Under the conditions of the study, the surface tension of 1 g/L nominal test concentration in water was determined to be 48 ± 0.5 mN/m at 20 ± 0.5ºC. Therefore, the test substance was considered to be surface-active (Envigo, 2018).
