Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference mixture

Barium nitrate : Powdered cellulose = 3:2

Burning time: 136s

Burning rate: 1.47mm/s

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test result showed that the maximum burning rate of mixture of sample with cellulose is less than maximum burning rate of reference mixture 1.47mm/s.
Executive summary:

According to EC REGULATION No 440/2008 Annex A.17 Oxidizing Properties (Solids), the sample is not considered as an oxidising substance. The test result is "no oxidising properties." Therefore, it is not classified under CLP.

Description of key information

The sample is not considered as an oxidizing substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

The result of preliminary test shows that the sample mixture burn very slowly, so the full train test is necessary. And the result of train test shows that, for sample cellulose-mixtures containing 10 to 90 % weight of sample, the piles can't be ignited in 2min. Test result showed that the maximum burning rate of mixture of sample with cellulose is less than maximum burning rate of reference mixture 1.47mm/s.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to EC REGULATION No 440/2008 Annex A.17 Oxidizing Properties (Solids), the sample is not considered as an oxidizing substance. The test results are "no oxidising properties", so that hazard category in CLP is not classified.
