Description of key information

Appearance

Observations related to conduct of GLP guideline studies determined the test material to be a brown solid.

 

Melting/freezing point

The melting temperature of the test item was determined to be over the range 30 to 47 °C (303 to 320 K) (OECD 102 and EU Method A.1).

Boiling point

The test item was determined to decompose from approximately 195 °C (468 K) at 100 kPa (OECD 103 and EU Method A.2).

 

Relative density

The density of the test item was determined to be 937 kg/m3 at 21.0 ± 1.0 °C and the relative density was reported as 0.937 (OECD 109 and EU Method A.3)

 

Granulometry

Granulometry was not investigated because the test item is a low melting point solid with determined melting temperature of 30 to 47 °C at 102 kPa. Particle size influencing toxicological profile is irrelevant because the substance is on the border between the solid and liquid state at ambient temperature.

 

Vapour pressure

The vapour pressure of the test item was determined to be 0.449 Pa at 25 °C (298 K), 13.2 Pa at 60 °C (333 K) and 7.59 Pa at 66°C (339 K) (OECD 104 and EU Method A.4).

 

Partition coefficient

The partition coefficient of the test item was determined to be greater than 1.0 x 10E10 with a Log10 Pow of > 10.0 for approximately 96 % of the test item by area percentage normalisation (OECD 117 and EU Method A.8).

Water solubility

Water solubility of the test item was determined by total organic carbon to be 5.86 x 10E-02 g/L of solution at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C. The result was based on a nominal loading rate of 0.1 g/L (OECD 105 and EU Method A.6).

 

Surface tension

The surface tension of solutions prepared at nominally 1.1 g/L of test item in water and diluted to 90 % saturation was determined to be 47.5 mN/m at 21.4 ± 0.5 °C and the substance was considered to be surface-active. The observed surface activity was considered to be due to a portion of the test item that comprised slightly water soluble/dispersible components; the remaining portion of insoluble components was considered to have little or no effect on the surface activity (OECD 115 and EU Method A.5).

 

Critical micelle concentration

The critical micelle concentration of the test item was determined to be approximately 1 g/L at 22 ± 2 °C (OECD 115 and EU Method A.5).

 

Flash point

The flash point of the test item was determined to be 118 ± 2 °C using the closed cup procedure (EU Method A.9).

Autoignition temperature

The test item was determined to have an autoignition temperature of 316 ± 5 °C (EU Method A.15).

 

Flammability

The substance is a low melting point solid with a determined melting temperature of 30 to 47 °C (303 to 320 K). Consequently, a flash point determination was performed to fulfil the requirement for information on flammability of the substance. The test material was found to have a flash point of 118 ± 2 °C and, based on experience in use, the substance is not pyrophoric and does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Explosive properties

Explosive properties were predicted negative based on chemical structure of the test item (EU Method A14).

 

Oxidising properties

Oxidising properties were predicted negative based on chemical structure of the test item (EU Method A.21).
