Since no studies assessing the short-term toxicity of 5-[C11-12 (branched) alkyl]-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde oxime to aquatic invertebrates is available, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related source substance Benzaldehyde, 2-hydroxy-5-nonyl, oxime, branched (CAS 174333-80-3) was conducted. The analogue justification document is attached to chapter 13.

The study with the read across substance was performed according to OECD guideline 211 under GLP conditions (Noack 2008). The test material was applied directly to the test vessels. Analytical monitoring was performed. All validity criteria were fulfilled. The NOEC based on reproduction (increased time to first brood release or time to hatch) is determined to be 0.189 mg/L based on measured concentration. Based on the high structural similarity which leads to similar behavior in the environment (as explained above) this conclusion can also be considered true for 5-[C11-12 (branched) alkyl]-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde oxime. However, to confirm the read across approach by a suitable bridging study we are currently performing a long-term toxicity test of the test substance with aquatic invertebrates. The study will be entered as soon as the report is available.
