Phototransformation in air

Using AOPWIN software the half-life time in air was calculated to be 6.397 hrs. Thus, after evaporation or exposure to the air, the substance will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes.

 

Hydrolysis

According to Kollig et al. (1993), Boethling & Mackay (2000) and Harris (1990), the test substance is generally resistant to hydrolysis because it does not contain any labile functional groups. Therefore, no study on hydrolysis is performed.

 

Biodegradation

Biodegradation in water: screening test

The ready biodegradability of the test substance was examined according to the OECD 301 B (CO2 evolution, modified Sturm test). After 28 days the test substance was biodegraded by an average of < 10 % CO2/ThCO2, therefore the test substance was found to be not readily biodegradable under the test conditions and furthermore the required pass level for ready biodegradability within a ten days window was not reached.

 

Bioacumulation

Bioacumulation: aquatic / sediment

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, Section 9.3.2., no study on bioaccumulation needs to be conducted, if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow ≤ 3). Since the log Kow of the test substance was calculated to be 2.63, an experimental investigation of its bioaccumulation properties was not considered necessary.

 

Transport and distribution

Adsorption/desorption

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VIII, Section 9.3.1, no study on adsorption/desorption needs to be conducted, if the substance and its relevant degradation products decompose rapidly or based on the physicochemical properties the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption. Since the log Kow was calculated to be 2.63, an experimental investigation on adsorption/desorption was not considered necessary.

Furthermore the soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) was calculated using EPIsuite KOCWIN program. Using the molecular connectivity index (MCI) method the Koc was calculated to be 582.3 L/kg and log Koc to be 2.77 respectively. Using the Kow method the Koc was calculated to be 194.6 L/kg and Log Koc to be 2.28 respectively. The Koc of 582.3 L/kg was regarded as worst case assumption and therefore chosen as key parameter for the risk assessment.

 

Henry´s Law constant

The Henry constant of the test substance was calculated 1.14 Pa*m3/mol at 25 °C using SRC HENRYWIN v3.20. The substance is considered not to evaporate into the atmosphere from the water surface.
