Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is evaluated on the basis of its components: Whereas for the component oleylamine hydrolysis is not required since it is readily biodegradable (failing the 10d window), for the components fatty acids hydrolysis is not feasable since these componets are very poorly soluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Reaction products of fatty acids, tall oil and fatty acids, C18 unsaturated, trimers and fatty acids, C18 unsaturated, dimers with (9Z)-octadec-9-en-1-amineis the salt of its different Fatty acids with oleylamine.

Once the substance is entering the aquatic environment it is expected that the substance with a surplus of water due to its salt like character may dissociate into its components Fatty acid dimer and trimer components, tall oil components and their counterpart oleylamine. Based on this assumption the components will be evaluated individually with regard to their behavior in the environment.

Oleylamine:In Annex VIII column 2 of the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 REACH concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), it is suggested, that a study on the "Hydrolysis as function of pH" does not need to be conducted if the " substance is readily biodegradable".Oleylamineis readily biodegradable but failing 10d window (EU-risk assessment: Primery Amines, 2008), therefore no testing for hydrolysis is required.

Fatty acids, tall oilmonomers, dimer and trimers: In accordance with REACH Annex VIII column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is highly insoluble in water. However,Fatty acids, tall oil dimer and trimer compounds are highly insoluble in water (HPV- consortium report),therefore, further testing for hydrolysis is not feasible.
