According to the CLP Regulation (EC) n. 1906/2006, substances are considered rapidly degradable in the environment if in 28-day ready biodegradation studies, at least the following levels of degradation are achieved:
tests based on dissolved organic carbon: 70 %; or if, in those cases where only BOD and COD data are available, when the ratio of BOD5/COD is ≥ 0,5.
The test substabce during the screening test (BOD5) shows a BOD5/COD = 0, this value suggest a no rapid biodegradation. Subsequently the test item was tested according to internationally guideline with acceptable restriction for inherenly biodegradation and shows a rate of 7.8 % degradation in 28 days, therefore the test substance is considered as not biodegradable.In addition, simulation data based on internationally recognised QSAR sofwtare (BIOWIN v 4.1) and QSAR software specifically built for dyes, resulted in non readily biodegradation properties.
