EC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L for Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata (OECD 201)

One study is available on the toxicity of 3-cyclohexyloxypropane-1,2 -diol (CAS No. 10305-41-6) to algae. This key study was performed according to OECD guideline 201 and GLP (Bouwman, 2013). The test organism Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata was exposed to the test substance in a static system for 72 hours, at nominal test concentrations of 0, 0.10, 1, 10 and 100 mg/L. Analysis of the samples taken from the highest test concentration showed that the actual concentration was in agreement with nominal (109%) at the start and remainedstable during the test period (90% of initial at the end of the test). Given these results, the effect parameters were based on nominal concentrations. No significant inhibition of growth rate and yield was observed at 100 mg/L, and hence, NOEC and EC50 values were reported as ≥ 100 mg/L and > 100 mg/L, respectively. However, alarge variation in algal cell density was observed between replicate vessels of especially the three lower test concentrations (0.10, 1.0 and 10 mg/L), and nevertheless, cell density in the highest test concentration was comparable to the control at the end of the test period. Therefore, the effect parameters were based on the results of the highest test concentration that consisted of six replicates.
