Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
other justification
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
16 Jun 1992
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The study was conducted according to the appropriate EU Method and in compliance with GLP.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Key result
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)

Details:

The test substance was exposed to air at room temperature. No ignition was observed. The temperature in the fume cupboard was measured to be 25 + 10°C (for all tests).

From this it is concluded that the test substance is not pyrophoric at 25 + 10°C under the conditions of the test.

Interpretation of results:
other: not pyrophoric
Conclusions:
The substance was determined to be not pyrophoric in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol, and in compliance with GLP.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

Flammable liquid
no pyrophoricity
no flammability in contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

The pyrophoricity was determined using pyrophoric test apparatus according to EU Method A.13. Based on the test the substance is not pyrophoric.

Based on the flash point (between 41.3°C and 53.3°C) and boiling point the substance is a flammable liquid.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, flammability in contact with water is not expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on the flash point (between 41.3°C and 53.3°C) and the boiling point of the test substance meets the criteria for classification as flammable liquid cat. 3 (H226) according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008.

Based on the available data on pyrophoricity the test substance does not meet the criteria for classification.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, flammability in contact with water is not expected and the test substance does not meet the criteria for classification.
