Amyl cinnamic aldehyde is a clear pale yellow liquid with strong floral odour suggestive of jasmine on dilution with a melting point of -1.6°C (accuracy of +/- 0.5 °C) and a boiling point of 294.9°C (accuracy of +/- 0.5 °C).

The relative density at 25°C is 0.966.

The partition coefficient n-octanol/water of amyl cinnamic aldehyde was reported as log Pow = 4.7 (at 24°C).

The flash point of amyl cinnamic aldehyde is 140°C (accuracy of +/- 0.2 °C).

As amyl cinnamic aldehyde is a liquid with flash point higher than 60ºC, the test material is not classified as flammable.

The autoignition temperature obtained for amyl cinnamic aldehyde was 231°C at 101.4 kPa.

The substance does not contain any chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Explosive properties are associated with the presence of certain chemical groups in a molecule which can react to produce very rapid increases in temperature or pressure. When there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule then a substance or mixture shall not be classified as explosive.

Examination of the chemical structure of the substance confirms that only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms are present. The oxygen atom is not part of a characteristic structural group of concern for oxidising properties, and nitrogen is absent from the structure. It is therefore concluded that Amyl Cinnamic Aldehyde is unlikely to be an oxidising substance.

Amyl Cinnamic Aldehyde has a viscosity of 13 mPa s at 20°C.
