From the preliminary screening test the sample was seen to briefly ignite and therefore no further testing is required.

As the material was moisture-sensitive and testing under relative low humidity conditions was not possible, the testing performed was carried out as quickly as possible. The material was not observed to undergo physical changes caused by atmospheric moisture.

Initially on heating, the sample melted to an off-white liquid and ignited with a pale blue flame when in contact with the ignition source. No propagation of this reaction was observed.

It has been determined that Amides, C12-18 (even-numbered), N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl], N'-oxides should not be classified as a readily combustible solid of UN Class 4, Division 4.1. No propagation of this reaction was observed.

Description of key information

It has been determined that the test substance should not be classified as a readily combustible solid of UN Class 4, Division 4.1. Flammability, pyrophoric properties and water reactivity studies are not required based on Section 1 of REACH Annex XI. Based on the chemical structure, it is concluded that the test substance is not flammable in contact with water and does not show pyrophoric properties. Furthermore, it is not considered to be a flammable liquid nor self-heating as the latter only applies to solids.
