The mixture with 50 % test item shows the highest burning rate. All mixtures with test item showed no vigorous reaction. Only the surface of the pile burned, below, a brown layer was found; beneath this layer, the unchanged mixture was visible. Melting of the test item was observed. It was suspected, that a false positive result was obtained due to the faster propagation of the flame along the powder train with the melted test item.

7.3.5 Additional Experiment under Air

In order to exclude a false positive result, the test was repeated in an atmosphere with less than 2% 02(under argon). In this experiment, ignition was attempted using an electric wire.

No ignition with propagating flame was observed. Only in direct contact with the electric wire, melting of the test item and smouldering of the mixture was observed, but ignition did not propagate further. Therefore, the study was terminated.
