Preliminary test

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test substance pile. The test substance melted, burned with a blue yellow flame and turned into a brown residue. After the pile had burned a distance of 50 mm, the time of burning over a distance of 200 mm was measured to be 71 seconds (i.e. 2.8 mm/s).

Burning rate test

After the pile had burned a distance of 80 mm, the burning time over 100 mm was measured to be 38 seconds. The test was performed once, since it confirmed the preliminary screening test in which two positive results were observed.

The influence of a wetted zone, as required according to the guideline UN.1, could not be investigated because of a high solubility of the test substance in water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the substance is considered to be a flammable solid, Category 1, and as R11 according to Directive 67/548/EEC. The Category 1 is assumed as the worst-case scenario, because the influence of the wetted zone cannot be investigated for technical reasons. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
