First-aid measures

General advice: Under the shower: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. including shoes.

Inhalation of vapours/mists Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Keep under medical surveillance. In case of problems : Hospitalise.

Skin contact:

Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. If possible, rinse with a boric acid solution 5%. Consult a physician.

Eye contact: Wash open eyes immediately, abundantly and thoroughly for at least 15 minutes. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately.

Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, rinse mouth and lips with plenty of water if the subject is conscious, then hospitalize.

Protection of first-aiders:

For any intervention, wear appropriate breathing apparatus. Protective suit Gloves Safety glasses

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2), Foam, Dry powder

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

At high temperature:, Forms flammable and explosive hydrogen through corrosion of metals.

Precautions for fire-fighters: Specific methods:

In case of fire nearby, remove exposed containers. Ensure a system for the rapid emptying of containers. Containers/tanks should be cooled with water spray.              

Special protective actions for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Prohibit contact with  eyes. Avoid contact with skin and inhalation of vapours. Remove all sources of ignition.

Environmental precautions:

Do not release into the environment. Do not let product enter drains. Dam up with sand or inert earth (do not use combustible materials).

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:

- Recovery: Absorb on an inert support (if liquid). Shovel into suitable container for disposal. After cleaning, flush away traces with water.

                     For small leaks : Wash with water and recover it.

- Neutralisation: Neutralize with an acid. (diluted solutions : Hydrochloric acid). Neutralization is exothermic.

- Elimination: Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Recover waste water for processing later.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Technical measures/Precautions:

Storage and handling precautions applicable to products: Liquid. Corrosive. At high vapour/fog concentrations: Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery. Provide showers, eye-baths. Provide water supplies near the point of use. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby (for emergency intervention).

Safe handling advice:

Avoid splashing and emission of vapours when handling. Clean up puddles of product immediately. Remove all sources of ignition. Provide waterproof electrical equipment.

Hygiene measures:      

Remove immediately soaked or soiled clothing. Wash separately. Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.  Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep tightly closed. Provide a catch-tank and an impermeable corrosion-resistant floor with drainage to a neutralization tank within a bunded area. Provide electrical earthing and waterproof equipment. Provide an anti-corrosion protected electrical equipment in a bunded area. Consult ARKEMA before storage design. Storage temperature: 70 °C

EXPOSURE CONTROLS:

Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems must be available at each Manufacturing/using site.

General protective measures:       Use high inegrity methods of material loading and unloading. Investigate engineering techniques to reduce exposures. Ensure sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work areas. Routine monitoring and inspection for leaks to reduce fugitive emissions

Personal protective equipment:

Respiratory protection: Where airborne exposure is likely wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Hand protection:     Rubber gloves  tested EN 374

Eye/face protection:      Safety glasses with side-shields. In case of spattering : Face-shield

Skin and body protection:      Protective suit, Non-skid boots.

Environmental exposure controls : Do not release into the environment. Use techniques to minimize the emissions : incineration or any treatment to minimize the level of release (ex WWTP).

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment:

Disposal of product:      Neutralize with an acid. (diluted solutions : Hydrochloric acid).  Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Disposal of packaging:      Clean container with water (recover waste water for treatment later).  Destroy packaging by incineration at an approved waste disposal site. In accordance with local and national regulations.
