Description of key information

Short term toxic effects in aquatic invertebrates are unlikely at the level of solubility of CaSi grades. A weight of evidence approach does not support short term aquatic testing of CaSi. Aquatic ecotoxicity of (dissolved) calcium and silicon is known to be low. Both of these elements have relatively high natural background levels in the aquatic environment.

There are no short-term aquatic invertebrate experimental toxicity data available/located for CaSi.The lack of short-term toxicity test results for aquatic invertebrates is an identified REACH Annex (VII-VIII) data gap.The substance is poorly water soluble alloy. The variation of composition of CaSi alloys is low and therefore the solubility of all grades of CaSi is also expected to be low and relatively constant.
