Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Description of key information

Based on QSAR estimations for the the components, "reaction mass of butane and butene and isobutane" is assessed as readily biodegradable (according to OECD criteria).

Additional information

Since under environmental conditions the reaction mass consists of different gases distributing preferentially into the air, conducting a standard ready biodegradability test is technically difficult. Therefore, the potential of the reaction mass to biodegrade was estimated by seperate QSAR calculations [BioHCwin v1.01 in EPISuite 4 (2009)] for the components. The results from these QSAR calculations indicate that the components are expected to biodegrade rapidly.

Hence, the reaction mass is assessed as readily biodegradable.
