Description of key information

Appearance / physical state / colour:

The physical  appearance of Black Pepper Oil was observed to be colorless to slightly greenish liquid organic compound with characteristic odor of pepper.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

Based on prediction done using MPBPVP v1.43, the freezing point of Black Pepper Oil was  estimated to be -40.76 ˚C.

Boiling point:

Based on prediction done using MPBPVP v1.43, the Boiling point of Black Pepper Oil was  estimated to be 167.66 ˚C

Density:

The density of Black Pepper Oil was determined to be 0.864 - 0.884 g/cm3

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

According to column 2 of AnnexVII of REAcH this end point was considered waiver since the Black Pepper Oil is a liquid and is expected to be marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.

Vapour pressure:

The estimated vapour pressure of the substance Black Pepper Oil at 25 deg C was 193 Pa.

Partition coefficient:

The octanol water Partition coefficient is estimated for Black pepper oil  using KOWWIN Program (v1.68). The estimated partition coefficient  KOWWIN Program (v1.68) for Black pepper oil (CAS: 8006-82-4) is Log Kow = 4.83.

Water solubility:

The estimated water solubility of substance Black Pepper Oil at 25 deg C was 4.581 mg/l

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Black pepper oil finds use as a flavoring agent. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

The flash point of Black Pepper Oil was determined to be 54 ˚C

Autoflammability:

Black Pepper Oil did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  Black Pepper Oil is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

The study does not need to be conducted because the Black Pepper Oil is a liquid compound. hence the end point was considered to be waiver.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidising properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

Other supporting study from authoritative database Scifinder, also supported the selected key study exhibited the density for Black Pepper Oil as 0.86 - 0.89 g/cm3, very much closer to the selected key value.

ACD/I-Lab accepts smiles of test item and estimated data for density using v12.1.0.50375. The estimated octanol water partition coeffecient for Black pepper oil (CAS: 8006-82-4 ) is 4.45.

Water solubility:

WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of the substance Black Pepper Oil .

The estimated water solubility of the substance Black Pepper Oil at 25 deg C was 4.581 mg/l

Based on the estimated value, the substance Black Pepper Oil was considered to be slightly soluble in water.
