Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 1995-12-20 to 1996-02-23
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
GLP study in accordance with recognised test guideline but: Lot/batch No.: not stated Expiration date of the lot/batch: not stated NOTE: study deemed acceptable because spectral data for test item are available, covering before and after the test period - see section 1.4 Analytical Information.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
capillary method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Batch No.: + 19951208
Key result
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
> 200 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Darkening ofthe test samples without melting was observed at temperatures above approximately 200°C, initially from cream to brown in colour and then to black at approximately 320°C

Mean values of 212°C and 287°C were obtained for 2-chloroanthraquinone and anthraquinone respectively. These were considered to be in satisfactory agreement with the respective certified values of 210°C and 285°C.

Duplicate melting point determinations were then performed on test item which decomposed at temperatures above 200°C (473K).

Conclusions:
The test item decomposes at temperatures above 200ºC.
Executive summary:

Melting point was determined in accordance with OECD Guideline 102 and EU Method A1.

The melting point determination was carried out by a capillary tube method using a Gallenkamp melting point apparatus to provide the heating.

The test item decomposes at temperatures above 200ºC.

Description of key information

Melting point was determined in accordance with OECD Guideline 102 and EU Method A1.

The test item decomposes at temperatures above 200ºC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test item decomposes at temperatures above 200ºC.
