First-aid measures

Protection of First-Aiders:

Protect yourself and any casualty from further exposure during decontamination.  Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face

Remove contaminated clothing.

Inhalation: Remove patient from exposure, keep warm and at rest.  Apply artificial respiration if necessary.  Treat symptomatically. Seek medical treatment.

Skin Contact: Wash affected skin with plenty of water.  Treat symptomatically.  Seek medical treatment.

Eye Contact: Irrigate with eyewash solution or clean water, holding the eyelids apart, for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical treatment.

Ingestion: If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious).   Do not induce vomiting.  Keep patient at rest.  Seek medical treatment.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

May cause respiratory irritation.

May cause an allergic skin reaction.

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Seek medical treatment when anyone has symptoms apparently due to swallowing, inhalation or contact with skin or eyes.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Extinguish with dry chemical, foam or waterspray.

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media

None known.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Decomposes in a fire giving off toxic fumes

Advice for fire-fighters

A self contained breathing apparatus and suitable protective clothing should be worn in fire conditions.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Ensure suitable personal protection (including respiratory protection) during removal of spillages.

Environmental precautions

Avoid release to the environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Absorb with inert liquid-binding material, E.g. Sand and vermiculite.  Sweep substance into clean dry container.  Transfer to a container for disposal.  Wash the spillage area with water.

Additional Information

Washings must be prevented from entering surface water drains.  Avoid release to the environment.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Wear suitable protective clothing.  Use only in well-ventilated areas.  Avoid inhalation of dusts.  Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Keep container tightly closed, in a cool, well ventilated place.  Keep container dry.

Storage Temperature

Keep in a cool place.

Incompatible materials

Keep away from: Strong oxidising agents, Alkalis.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures

Provide adequate ventilation when using the material and follow the principles of good occupational hygiene to control personal exposures.

2. Organisational protection measures

See Risk Management Measures document included in Section 13.

3. Hand protection

Neoprene gloves

4. Feet protection

Safety footware

5. Body protection

Overalls and chemical protection suit.

6. Eye protection

Goggles / face shield

7. Respiratory protection

Where engineering controls are not fitted or inadequate wear suitable respiratory protective equipment.  E.g EN141 Type A

Stability and reactivity

Stable under normal conditions.

Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Do not mix with strong oxidizing agents, reducing agents or strong acids.

Disposal considerations

Dispose of this material and its container to hazardous or special waste collection point.  Disposal may be carried out by diluting the waste with a suitable solvent and burning under controlled conditions at a licensed waste material processor; stack gases will need to be scrubbed.
