Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No short term toxicity to fish data is available for the substance Nonanol, branched and linear, (CAS 68515-81-1). However data is available for the closely related substance nonanol.

A reliable 96h LC50 value of 5.7 mg/L has been determined for the effects of nonan-1-ol on mortality of the fish Pimephales promelas. This study represent the lowest reliable value available for this endpoint on nonanol and has been chosen as key.

Other reliable short term toxicity tests show the LC50 values for nonanol to be in the range 5.7 and 18 mg/L.

The nonanol, branched and linear substance has a structure which is termed 'essentially linear'. The physicochemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties and behaviour of this substance do not significantly differ between such structures and their linear analogues. It is therefore possible to read-across between the two substances. Additionally these isomeric substances have an identical molecular weight. The difference in composition is dependent on the manufacturing process which may create linear alcohols or simple mono-branched structures. Direct read-across from nonanol (CAS 143-08-8) to nonanol, branched and linear (CAS 68515-81-1) is scientifically justified and valid.
