The test standard used states that temperature corrections need to be made to the result if the ambient barometric pressure differs from a standardised (sea level) reading of 101.3 kPa. As barometric pressure has an effect on a liquid’s vapour pressure this means more or less volatiles could be present at the same test temperature under examination (depending on the local barometric pressure of any given test laboratory) and to remove this variable all results are harmonised to the same barometric pressure.

The flash point of PPG-2 myristyl ether propionate was determined to be 172.0 °C (corrected) at 101.3 kPa. The substance does not meet the criteria for a flammable liquid according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
Executive summary:

An GLP-compliant experiment was performed to determine the flash point of PPG-2 myristyl ether propionate in line with EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point) of EU Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Annex Part A. A closed cup technique with Pensky-Martens apparatus was utilised. No deviation from protocol was reported. The flash point is deemed to be the lowest temperature at which the presence of a flame results in an ignition of the vapour. The experiment was undertaken in triplicate and as the ambient barometric pressure readings (100.9 - 101.0 kPa) were noted to be different to the standardised sea level reading of 101.3 kPa, a temperature correction was applied to the result. The flash point for PPG-2 myristyl ether was determined to be 172.0 °C (corrected) at 101.3 kPa. This value does not fit the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 criteria for flammable liquids.

This result is concluded to be a valid endpoint value given that it was obtained from a key study performed in line with Good Laboratory Practise (GLP) and EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point) of EU Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Annex Part A, without deviation. A Klimisch score of 1 (reliable without restriction) is proposed.
