Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Hexadecan-1 -ol, ethoxylated, <2.5 EO is not considered as flammable.

Conclusions:
Hexadecan-1 -ol, ethoxylated, <2.5 EO is not considered as flammable.
Executive summary:

Hexadecan-1 -ol, ethoxylated, <2.5 EO is not considered as flammable.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

non-flammable on ignition
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

No propagation of combustion was observed (EU A.10). Based on assessment of the chemical structure of the substance in combination with experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. The substance is not self-heating because it is completely molten at 160 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

According to the test EU A.10 (flammable solids), the substance is not flammable on ignition (no propagation of combustion was observed). Based on the assessment of the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. Based on the melting point significantly below the value of 160 °C, the substance demonstates no self-heating properties.
