Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If symptoms are experienced, remove to fresh air and obtain medical advice.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush with lukewarm water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, obtain medical attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and plenty of water. If irritation persists, obtain medical advice.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Rinse mouth. Drink plenty of water. If irritation or discomfort occurs, obtain medical advice immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray, foam, dry chemical, carbon dioxide gas.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a fire, evolving noxious fumes (e.g. oxides of carbon and
nitrogen, and sulphur and sodium containing compounds).

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from immediate vicinity.

Wear suitable protective gloves. Wipe surfaces with wet cloth or paper.

Do not release to sewer, surface water, or groundwater.

Dispose of waste material in accordance with local regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with any local regulations in order to minimise exposure.

Engineering controls (mechanical ventilation) are necessary to minimise exposure to the substance.

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn.
Such protective equipment should conform to the appropriate international or national standards as follows;
Chemical protective gloves to Standard EN374
Chemical protective clothing to Standard EN368
Eye protection to Standard EN166.
Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment has to be used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure, be suitable for the purpose, and conform to the appropriate international or national standards, such as a dust mask conforming to EN149 FFP1.

These measures should be regarded as a minimum.

The substance is manufactured in Japan and will be imported into the EU only as a component of ink found in inkjet printer cartridges. These cartridges are supplied directly to consumers and commercial users, so specific measures should not be required during normal use and cartridge
replacement.

Storage: The substance should be stored in a cool, dry, well-
ventilated area away from flames and sources of ignition.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Small plastic cartridges sealed with plastic film and
packaged in a cardboard box.

Exposure controls / personal protection

The substance should be stored, transported, handled and used under conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with
any local regulations in order to minimise exposure.
When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None known.
Chemical reaction with water: None which is hazardous.

Dust explosion: Under normal conditions of use this material does not present a significant explosion hazard. However, like most organic compounds it is combustible and may form a dust explosion if widely dispersed in air. However, dust explosion is not a hazard as the substance is
imported into the EU as a component of a liquid preparation.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically or technically feasible, and as such, waste material should be disposed of by appropriate methods and according to local regulations.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers, empty cartridges, spillage and printed media may be disposed of by landfill at an authorised tip in accordance with local regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Contaminated items containing the substance can be disposed
of by incineration by burning under controlled conditions at a licenced waste treatment processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases should be scrubbed, as noxious gases could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged direct to
the sewage system or the aqueous environment.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Plastic cartridges containing waste ink can be disposed of
by incineration, or may be recycled.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery/recycling of the used substance is not feasible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers, empty cartridges, spillages and
printed media may be disposed of by landfill at an
authorised tip in accordance with any local regulations.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Contaminated items containing the substance can be disposed
of by incineration by burning under controlled conditions at
a lincenced waste treatment processor in accordance with
any local regulations. Stack gases should be scrubbed, as
noxious fumes could be formed).

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: None.
